# What it means for a company to be AI First

> An AI First company organises its data and processes so that AI agents can use them with clear permissions, not just people. You start with a specific process and by structuring the information. Standards such as MCP make it possible to connect that data to several assistants.

For a company to be AI First means that it organises its data and processes with AI agents in mind, not just people. It isn't about having a chatbot on your website; it's about making sure that client information, operations or internal knowledge is organised, accessible with clear permissions and connected to the assistants the team uses.

We see this often in small and medium-sized businesses: many people already use ChatGPT or Claude on their own, but the data that would make those answers good is scattered across spreadsheets, emails and people's heads.

## What changes compared with “using AI”?

Using AI means each person opens a chat and pastes in what they need. It works for one-off tasks, but the knowledge stays in private conversations and nobody else benefits from it.

Being AI First flips this around: first you prepare the company's data so an agent can query it safely, and then anyone on the team can ask questions with that context in front of them.

## Where do you start?

With ordering. It sounds unexciting, but it is the part that decides whether agents work or not. You have to choose which information matters (clients, orders, incidents, documentation) and give it a stable structure: the same fields, the same names, a single place of reference. This also forces decisions that many companies have put off for years: who is responsible for each piece of data, which version of a document is the right one or which client is active. An agent doesn't fix the mess; it amplifies it.

Our recommendation is to start with a specific process that hurts. Preparing sales meetings, for example: if contacts and conversations are organised, an agent can summarise a client's history for you in seconds. When that first case works, the team understands the value without needing presentations, and the next process almost sorts itself out.

## How do agents connect to that data?

Today the standard that is being adopted most is [MCP](https://traiker.com/en/blog/what-is-mcp-memory-chatgpt-claude-grok). It lets you expose the company's data through a server and lets compatible assistants, such as Claude or those built with the OpenAI and xAI APIs, query it without custom integrations for each one.

The advantage for a company is not being tied to one provider: if the team prefers another assistant tomorrow, the data and tools still work.

## What about security?

It is the first thing people ask us, and rightly so. A company's data should be isolated, encrypted and with permissions per person and per tool. The [MCP specification](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/2025-06-18/server/tools) recommends always having a person able to reject the agent's actions, something we consider essential in a business environment.

And if you handle clients' personal data, the [GDPR](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/reg/2016/679/oj) still applies even if an agent is the one querying it. We cover this in more detail in [how to give your data to an AI without losing control](https://traiker.com/en/blog/use-ai-with-your-data-without-losing-control).

## Where does Traiker fit in?

Traiker was born for personal use, but the same idea works for teams: your own database, templates like the CRM one so you don't start from scratch, and an MCP server designed to connect it to the assistants you already use; we're opening access gradually in the beta. We are working on this with that B2B vision in mind.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do I need a technical team to be AI First?

It helps, but the most important thing is deciding which data matters and organising it. The technical connection can come from tools that already exist.

### Does being AI First mean replacing people?

No. It's about the team working with better context and spending less time looking for information.

### What data shouldn't I give an agent?

Data it doesn't need for the task. Apply least privilege: each agent gets only what is essential.
